Real-time Raytracing 2022

Finally catching up with #unreal5's new lighting solution, #Lumen. "Dynamic global illumination and reflection that reacts to changes in real-time", indeed! After decades of lighting 3d scenes, it's a relief to finally work with a system that is improving the workflow while providing amazing quality. Letting go of years of experience working with lightmaps will be hard, but it's a huge load off the back. #UE5's use of software raytracing(utilising signed distance fields) makes this level of quality highly accessible as well, ie. you don't need to have an expensive graphics card to enjoy beautiful lighting(note: the video below did not have hardware raytracing enabled).
